The final phase of the Yards at Union Station Development, this project blends modern forms and materials from the industrial history. The five-story podium building contains a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom units, all reserved for people making 60% or less of the area median income.
The ground floor includes a fitness room, lounge, lobby and bike room all with large storefront windows to activate the street.
Exterior materails include red brick, horizontal v-ribbed steel panels and flat metal panels influenced by the adjacent freight trains. A small plaza in the southeast corner of the site is framed by the large cantilevered building wings, roof and heavy steel framed stair tower.
Built upon a recovered brownfield site, the project includes many sustainable measures such as flow-through planters, native plantings, energy efficient lighting, high efficiency windows and building envelope, linoleum floors, and materials with high recycled content. The project received a LEED Silver Certification under the USGBC’s BD + C rating system.
