F. Maxine and Thomas W. Cook Memorial Library
La Grande, Oregon
Client: City of La Grande
Otak Architects: Architect of Record
Jennifer Nye: Project Architect
Located at a major interstection in downtwon La Grande, this new library mixes historic and modern materials in modern forms. The building is a single-level 19,000-square feet with a large childrens area, adult stacks, and a large community room.
This libary has a large children's collection which became a major design feature. The children's storytime enclosure utilizes wood panels and wood cribbing, built-in seating, child height windows, and natural light is filtered through the skylight.
This project was funded in part by a loan from the special public works fund of the Oregon Economic and
Community Development Department and grants from Oregon housing and community services, the Meyer
Memorial Trust, the Collins Foundation, and the Oregon Community Foundation.
